Implement automation to create capacity

Implement automation to create capacity

Automation is the first of the two primary outputs of our methodology (with the second being Productivity). It is your primary strategic lever for achieving your strategic objectives.

Automation is the process of using technology to perform tasks that would otherwise be done by humans. This can include anything from automating repetitive tasks to creating entirely new roles that are performed by machines. Automation is a key driver of efficiency, allowing your workforce to focus on high-value activities that drive strategic outcomes.

You must understand the tasks required of your workforce and identify opportunities for automation. Once identified, you can implement automation technologies to reduce the time required to complete these tasks, freeing up capacity for those tasks that cannot be automated. It is crucial that automated tasks are removed from the role design to prevent duplication of effort and ensure that your workforce is focused on strategic activities.

How we can help

With a detailed role design (from our baseline or adjusted with your own customisations), our technology impact research can identify the tasks that are most likely to be automated. We provide recommendations for automation opportunities including the size of the capacity benefit and the FTE's at risk of not automating. You can use this to prioritise your technology spend and ensure that you are making the most of your automation opportunities.

You can explore these insights at any level of granularity across your organisation to inform specific business cases for automation, as well as track changes in your automation opportunities over time.
